20250317 Quantitative Data (Making Histogram, Line Chart, Scatter Plot)

Data are from Statisic with Technology, Dr. Kozak https://stats.libretexts.org/Bookshelves/Introductory_Statistics/Statistics_with_Technology_2e_(Kozak)/02%3A_Graphical_Descriptions_of_Data/2.01%3A_Qualitative_Data

Example 2.2.1

How to make Histogram?

a. Copy and paste the data sample using Google sheet

b. Select the column "Class Midpoint" and "Frequency" then copy and paste on the side.

see the image below: (This image the one I made in my own Google Sheet)

Class LimitsClass BoundariesClass MidpointTallyFrequency
350-664349.5-664.5507||||4
665-979664.5-979.5822|||| |||8

c. After that, select the column of the "Class Midpoint" and "Frequency" you created and click "insert" -choose "chart".

(image shows "Class Midpoint" and "Frequency")
d. now you have a column chart, you can customize it by choosing your desired color or font.

Figure  2.2.1: Histogram for Monthly Rent

Cumulative Frequency vs. Class Midpoint

In making Line chart, it is the same process as the previous example. Copy and paste to the sheet.

Class LimitsClass BoundariesClass MidpointCumulative Frequency
350-664349.5-664.55074
665-979664.5-979.582212
980-1294979.5-1294.5112717
1295-16091294.5-1609.5145223
1610-19241609.5-1924.5176723
1925-22391924.5-2239.5208223
2240-25542239.5-2554.5239724
Select the column of "Class Midpoint" and "Cumulative Frequency", then Click "insert" then "chart" to make a line chart. Just click "insert" then "chart (line chart)".

Class MidpointCumulative Frequency
5074
82212
112717
145223
176723
208223
239724

Line Chart:
You can customize the line chart to your desired color or fonts.

Example  2.3.2: scatter plot

Temperature Vs. Elevation

Elevation
(in feet)
7000400060003000700045005000
Temperature (°F)50604870555560

In making Scatter Plot, the process is the same as making histogram and line chart. However, instead, we will choose the "scatter plot" in the chart choices
