20250310 Graphical Descriptions (Using Google Sheet/Excel)

QUALITATIVE DATA

Example 2.1:

Data are from Statistic With Technology, Dr. Kozak  https://stats.libretexts.org/Bookshelves/Introductory_Statistics/Statistics_with_Technology_2e_(Kozak)/02%3A_Graphical_Descriptions_of_Data/2.01%3A_Qualitative_Data

One Dollar teaches us how to use Google Sheets/Excel to get the given's Relative Frequency. First, copy the provided data and paste it into the Google spreadsheet. Then, add another column, namely "Relative Frequency," next to the Frequency. See the steps below.

Note: Letters and Numbers depends on the column and row of the data you want to calculate

CategoryFrequency
Relative Frequency (sum=1)
Ford50.1
Chevy120.24
Honda60.12
Toyota120.24
Nissan100.2
Other50.1
Total501

This image shows the result after I did the given instructions.
However, these data samples are from the textbook "Statistic with Technology" by Kozak.

Example  2.1.2: Drawing a bar graph

Category
Relative Frequency
Ford0.1
Chevy0.24
Honda0.12
Toyota0.24
Nissan0.2

Select the column you want to make a chart, then choose "Column Chart." You can customize it depending on your liking.

Figure 1. Frequency and Category

Figure 2. Relative Frequency vs. Category, Column Chart version

Example  2.1.3. Drawing a pie chart

Note: Inputs (Letters and Numbers) depend on the column and row of the data you want to calculate

Select the column you want to make a pie chart, click "insert", then "chart", and choose pie chart, you can also change colors and font depending on your likings.

QUANTITATIVE DATA

Example  2.2.1 creating a frequency table

Data are from Statistic With Technology, Dr. Kozak  https://stats.libretexts.org/Bookshelves/Introductory_Statistics/Statistics_with_Technology_2e_(Kozak)/02%3A_Graphical_Descriptions_of_Data/2.02%3A_Quantitative_Data

First, arrange the data vertically.

Copy-paste, select the data, finally, sort by A-Z or Z-A
